The City of Greater Bendigo invites applications from suitably qualified persons to join its Audit and Risk Committee (Committee) as an independent member.

  • A minimum of four meetings per annum (in person attendance preferred)
  • Advisory position
  • Three year appointment – commencing 1 October 2026
  • Professional fees paid

The Committee is an independent advisory committee of Council that plays a key role in assisting Council to fulfil its responsibilities in relation to financial and performance reporting, risk management, fraud prevention systems and controls, compliance with policies and legislative and regulatory requirements, maintaining a sound internal control environment, and assurance activities, including internal and external audit. It acts in this capacity by monitoring, reviewing, endorsing and advising on these matters, as set out in its Charter.

Key selection criteria

  • Governance and Risk Management Expertise – Demonstrated senior experience in governance and risk management. Ability to support strong oversight and internal control environments.
  • Financial and Audit Expertise – Strong knowledge of financial management, reporting, internal controls and auditing. Ability to review and interpret financial statements and audit findings.
  • Financial Sustainability and Strategic Insight – Experience contributing to financial sustainability and long‑term decision‑making. Understanding of cost pressures and service delivery challenges.
  • Audit and Risk Committee / Board Experience and Professional Standing – Experience serving on boards or audit and risk committees. Supported by relevant tertiary qualifications and/or professional experience.
  • Local Government and Public Sector Understanding – Understanding of local government or public sector and awareness of regulatory obligations and key sector risks.

Consideration will also be given to specialist areas or expertise which will provide the committee with appropriate skills mix.
