The Role
In this leadership role as our Leading Hand - Townships (advertised as "Parks & Open Space Leading Hand - Heathcote"), you will undertake a range of duties including:
- Ensure operational maintenance programs, within our Parks and Open Spaces in Heathcote and surrounding towns, are being conducted to the highest possible standard and in accordance with best industry practice
- Supervise staff and contractors to ensure all works are completed safely, on time and to a high standard
- Promote and implement appropriate human resource management, OHS and risk management practices and procedures
- Working collaboratively to plan, program and oversee all operational activities necessary to achieve and maintain high quality parks and open space areas, including playgrounds
- Undertake a range of general maintenance activities including mowing, brush cutting, edging, weed control, irrigation maintenance, playground repairs, general repairs and litter removal
This position is based at the Heathcote Depot, and will undertake work in Heathcote, Mia Mia, Redesdale and Bendigo, with travel to other depots or locations may be required.
The position works Monday to Friday from 7.30am – 4.30pm over a 9 day fortnight (fortnightly RDO).
About You
To be successful in this varied position, you will have:
- Relevant qualifications and experience in horticulture, park maintenance or similar
- Experience in the safe operations of a range of plant and equipment such as mowers and brush cutters
- Skills and experience in, or a keen interest to learn, team leadership
- Knowledge of OH&S and safe work practices
- Good communication, time management and computer skills
- Ability to work independently or part of a team
This role requires:
- Satisfactory police check
- Pre employment medical
- Employee Working with Children Check
- Current drivers licence with MR endorsement being desirable
- Construction Induction Card
- Farm Chemical Users certificate
