The City of Greater Bendigo is in the heart of central Victoria on Dja Dja Wurrung and Taungurung Country. Located just 90 minutes’ drive from Melbourne, our region offers all the benefits of a large city with a warm and welcoming country feel.

The Role

The Healthy Communities and Environments directorate works in partnership with Greater Bendigo residents to ensure they are healthy and well, safe and secure, able to participate, connected to culture and community, and enjoy a liveable and sustainable environment.

This is achieved through leadership, planning, policy development, service delivery, capacity building and infrastructure delivery.

The five units within this directorate are Active & Healthy Communities, Climate Change & Environment, Community Partnerships, Community & Environmental Health, and Safe Environments.

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead a workforce of more than 330 employees and a budget of over $35 million. 

You will be a respected and experienced leader with a passion for supporting communities, responsible for the strategic development of wellbeing and environmental plans, and work across the organisation to embed these plans and deliver impactful outcomes for residents. You will lead a high performing team and drive a culture that is respectful, creative and diverse.

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will also have a key role in supporting the organisation to achieve its priorities.

About You

To be successful in this varied position, you will have a contemporary approach, promoting collaboration and best practice for exceptional community outcomes. Experience leading the development and implementation of complex strategies in response to community needs will be key to your success in this role. 

Previous leadership experience of a large service operation and management of complex budgets and funding arrangements will also be essential. Community and/or public sector knowledge and exposure to areas such as public health, environmental sustainability and community development will be highly regarded.

Essential to your success will be your professional communication skills that enable you to build and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships across the organisation and with a diverse range of stakeholders.
