The Role

We’re seeking an experienced Building Surveyor to serve as the Council’s Municipal Building Surveyor. You will provide strategic leadership and oversee building services to ensure compliance with Victorian Building Legislation and the Building Act, as well as Council plans, strategies, and budgets.

This role is about working closely with our community and partners to ensure safe, compliant, and sustainable building practices. You’ll engage with a wide range of stakeholders, oversee essential services, and promote understanding of building standards. Representing Council in regulatory and emergency matters, you’ll play a key role in ensuring safe practices and fostering a resilient, thriving built environment for our community.

About You

You are an experienced leader with formal qualifications as a Building Surveyor Unlimited, with an excellent understanding of the interpretation and application of the Building Act and Regulations. You combine strategic thinking with a strong grasp of legislative frameworks, enabling your team to deliver results that support Council priorities and strengthen the community.

You are committed to providing a high standard of customer service and a demonstrated ability to motivate and develop staff. Previous experience overseeing building services in Local Government is desirable.

Your skills include:

  • Managing people practices, including performance management and staff development
  • Strategic planning and the ability to identify quality improvement opportunities
  • Budget management and financial reporting
  • Building collaborative relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders

A satisfactory Police Record Check, employee Working with Children Check, current Victorian driver’s licence and Victorian Building Authority Registration as a Building Surveyor (Unlimited) are required for this position.
