The Role

The Corporate Performance Directorate’s purpose is to lead and support the organisation to achieve great results on behalf of the community.

The Directorate is responsible for: 

  • Customer service, communications and engagement to respond to and inform our community 
  • Managing financial resources, including leading the annual budget process and raising and collecting rates 
  • Developing and supporting our most valuable asset – our staff
  • Ensuring the highest standards of governance and probity in all elements of Council’s operations
  • Improving organisational performance, including through change management, service improvement and innovation, business planning and corporate strategy  
  • Providing reliable digital and information technology to ensure the organisation operates efficiently and meets the needs of our customers 

The five units within this directorate are Customer Engagement & Communications, Financial Strategy, People and Culture, Governance and Performance, and Information Technology.

Reporting to the CEO, you will lead a workforce of more than 135 employees, manage a budget of $260M, enable delivery of the Council Plan and community vision, and further our organisation’s preferred culture.

In addition to leadership of the Directorate, this role provides advice to the Mayor, Council and business units across the City, and works closely with a number of the City’s partner entities. 

As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will also have a key role in supporting the organisation to achieve its priorities.

About you

To be considered for this role, you will be a progressive and values-driven leader with a strong focus on driving continuous improvement in ways of working and developing a culture of true partnership with both internal and external stakeholders.

You will have significant experience working at a senior or executive level with strong commercial and business acumen, and a demonstrated ability to be innovative and strategic in a challenging environment with conflicting demands.

You’ll have a strong understanding of governance, finance, strategy and people management, and the ability to support the City through challenge and change. 

Your experience may be in government or the private sector, and you will bring a passion for enabling great outcomes.

Essential to your success will be your professional communication skills that enable you to build and maintain strong, collaborative partnerships across the organisation and with a diverse range of stakeholders.
