The Role

As our Construction Team Leader you will be an integral part of the team ensuring that civil construction projects are undertaken in a safe and efficient manner as well as providing support to staff and contractors onsite.  

Key responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for maintaining high quality standards of work performed by the team and ensuring projects are completed on time and budget
  • Undertake civil construction duties such as road construction, pavement works, drainage installation, kerb and channel construction, concreting, asphalt works, streetscape construction and maintenance, landscaping, excavation, traffic management, and associated civil infrastructure works.
  • Operate a range of plant including and equipment, including excavators, backhoes, loaders, rollers, skid steer loaders, trucks, trailers, compaction equipment, and other machinery associated with road, drainage, and streetscape construction and maintenance activities. Experience in surveying and construction set-out using robotic total stations, GNSS rovers, and associated software is highly desirable but not mandatory
  • Provide on site direction and encouragement to staff, contractors and service authorities
  • In consultation, organise the supply of materials, equipment and staff
  • Provide a safe working environment

Standard work hours are Monday – Friday 7.30am – 4pm and works a 9 day working fortnight (fortnightly RDO). The role is based at the City’s Adam Street depot in Golden Square where you will travel out to site to service the City of Greater Bendigo area.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have:

  • Skills and knowledge in civil construction including some or all of the following: paving work, concreting, drainage work. bulk excavation, crushed rock payments, general construction and/or general maintenance work
  • Ability to competently operate a range of heavy equipment, including excavators, backhoes, loaders, rollers, skid steer loaders, trucks, trailers, compaction equipment, and other machinery associated with road, drainage, and streetscape construction and maintenance activities. Experience in surveying and construction set-out using robotic total stations, GNSS rovers, and associated software is highly desirable but not mandatory
  • Ability to provide site supervision and be an effective team member with strong communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of OHS requirements and environmental management techniques
  • Ability to plan and execute works within a program and budget

 This role requires:

  • A satisfactory police records check
  • Undertaking a Pre-employment medical
  • Current driver’s licence with Heavy Rigid (HR) endorsement are required, with Heavy Combination (HC) endorsement being desirable
  • Construction Induction Card
  • Worksite traffic management and traffic controller’s certificate
  • Relevant Plant Operator competencies
