The Role
As our Leading Hand - Asphalter you will undertake onsite supervision of the daily activities of the Asphalt team.
You will also:
- Support the Team Leader in the delivery of asphalt and road maintenance activities ensuring high quality and safety for City employees and the community
- Work closely with the Team Leader to plan resources necessary to accomplish tasks including the coordination of traffic management, site set ups, recording of safety information and all works conducted
- Supervise the maintenance and record keeping of all council utilised equipment and plant by the Asphalt team
- Ensure safe and efficient operation of a range of plant associated with maintenance and construction activities, which may include Flocon equipment, asphalt truck, grader, excavator, backhoe and skid steer.
The position includes a 9 day working fortnight (fortnightly RDO) and is based at the City’s Adam Street depot in Golden Square where you will travel out to site to service the City of Greater Bendigo area.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
- Skills and experience in general road maintenance, asphalt or concrete work or civil construction works
- Team leadership skills and experience - or willingness to learn
- Experience in the supervision of infrastructure maintenance workers
- The ability to work in a team and under direction, with a strong focus on customer service
- Understand the basic Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) principles and practices
- Ability to competently and safely operate a range of plant
Worksite traffic management and traffic controller’s certificate is desirable.
A satisfactory police records check, Construction Induction Card and Medium Rigid (MR) licence is required for this position.
